Project Description:
Benguela Health Solutions completed an evaluation of the health services provided in Postmasburg with a view to recommending health services development in both the public and the private sectors.
Benguela developed a feasibility study recommending the building of a 24-hour emergency unit with associated overnight beds as a priority, equipped with laboratory and radiology diagnostics, to be followed by a phase 2 of building a small sub-acute and day hospital facility as part of the development.
Recommendations were made for the upgrade of the local District Hospital, specifically to re-open 2 closed wards and improve the paediatric care facilities, and to consider the addition of consulting rooms to the two larger community health centres. Sharing of resources with the DOH and focussing on the implementation of the National Health Insurance as the principles for the facility underpin the proposal.
Based on the study, Anglo approved the development and Benguela has been contracted to programme manage the full construction feasibility study including all drawings (architectural and engineering), human resources requirements, equipment listings, and financial modelling. Benguela has also been requested to facilitate conversations with potential funders, service providers and the Department of Health.
